COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION

Education: “The Process of Acquiring Knowledge or Skills”

Willmar Electric Service has been at the forefront in the area of education for many years. In 1996 Willmar Electric was one of the primary contributors to the NCCER (National Center for Construction, Education, and Research) which has grown into one of the nation’s leaders in providing standardized training and credentialing to the construction industry. Willmar Electric strongly believes “What if we train employees and they leave?” is far superior to “What if we don’t train employees and they stay”. It is our commitment to the individual, to the industry, and our ability to focus on the big picture, that motivates the ongoing efforts of providing continuing education for all of our employees, all of the time.

Education is a cornerstone not only for working productively but also for working safely. All current employees have received OSHA 10 hour training, and all supervisory positions are required to have OSHA 30. All new field employees are required to complete the OSHA 10 hour course before entering a jobsite. First Aid / CPR is required at many of our jobsites. Along with the scheduled classes and certifications safety training occurs regularly on the jobsite as new situations present themselves. Willmar Electric strongly believes that safety awareness and training before performing tasks is essential in providing a safe, productive working environment.

Willmar Electric provides ongoing apprenticeship training to all apprentices. Willmar Electric’s education program has been accepted by the Department of Labor in Oklahoma and Minnesota. In other states, ABC’s (Associated Builders and Contractors) accredited apprenticeship programs have been utilized.

Continuing Education is available to everyone that works at Willmar Electric. Many classes, webinars, lunch and learns, books, DVD’s, and other training methods are available to all employees. A large percentage of the training is focused on the electrical trade, leadership, and safety, but there are also many other opportunities. Our Purpose Statement is “People Making a Difference for People” and in an effort to accomplish this, continuing education includes many options to help employees grow as well rounded individuals who can positively influence the people around them: on the jobsite, at home, and in their communities.
